Justin McCarthy, visit this site CEO of The Irish Farmers Journal launches the 74th Virginia Agricultural Show at a press reception in their new Events Centre in the showgrounds in Virginia.
Continued efforts are underway to get ready for this years show which promises to be picture perfect, with over 200 hardworking committee members and almost 500 classes, a lot goes on behind the scene and Chairperson, Sean Farrelly and Secretary, Mary Gaynor work hard to ensure all goes without fault.
The show committee are getting ready for this years show since last year and this is evident in the list of highlights on the table for the 2015 show. Whether its cattle, horses, sheep, poultry, dogs, home industries, childrens classes or art & craft is your thing, there is something for everyone from National Finals to National Qualifiers, this years prize list is available online.
Virginia Show attracts over 15,000 people to Cavan every year, there is an all-encompassing range of events to suits all tastes, near 300 trade stands, live entertainment, artisan food stands, cookery demonstration by Neven Maguire, fashion shows, sheep shearing demonstrations, dog agility competitions and childrens entertainment, it is the definitive lifestyle event.
The importance of shows cannot be underestimated, Virginia Show Society constantly strive for innovative new ideas and are constantly coming up with new ways to move forward, this year more than ever with the daily management of their newly erected Events Centre settled neatly on the Showgrounds. At Virginia Show Society we believe in developing the show constantly and realise that cross border cooperation is key, we need to work together as Team Ireland. We need to be competitive because of economies of scale on the global market. We must identify ways to become larger and more competitive and feel the benefits that arise because of this.

Dairy conference: Back by popular demand!.
After its huge triumph last year, Virginia Show are inviting farmers from all over to the Virginia Show Dairy Conference. The Seminar, which takes place at 10.30 am in the new purpose built events centre, is on the foundation blocks to building a good dairy business post milk quota and promises to be very informative. Speakers on the day will be Donal Patton researcher from Ballyhaise College and Teagasc who will address grazing and breeding to secure a profitable future, James O’Loughlin, Teagasc, speaking on land drainage: costs and benefits while Austin Finn, land mobility officer with Macra na Feirme will continue with advice on important steps to increasing you milk platform and share milking options. This will be followed by questions and answers session.

Virginia Show Wednesday 20 August
In its 73rd year, order there is only one direction all traffic will be heading on Wednesday 20th of August, Virginia Show is in everyone’s diary, and you, your family, exhibitors and visitors from the four corners of Ireland and beyond are cordially invited to come to Virginia for their Annual Virginia Show. Virginia will be alive with all the sights and sounds associated with early autumn. A day for everyone, the serious business of over 470 classes gets underway alongside food markets, children’s amusements, trade stands, demonstrations and the hustle and bustle of a great day out. In an Ireland of increased awareness of food traceability, Virginia Show allows you to meet the people who set the high standards of the Irish dairy, beef, and sheep industries.

It’s finally finished, the brand new purpose built Events Centre is at long last ready to open its doors for visitors. Committee members are already taking bookings for the new Show Events Centre, small and large meeting rooms, amazing multipurpose Hall and a new Rolls Royce of kitchens can cater for all your needs. Booking can be made through virginiashowcentre@gmail.com and this year it will showcase a number of events including the Diageo Baileys Irish Champion Dairy Cow Competition and the Dairy Conference.
